Working Through Things

After all of the wedding craziness and taking a long break from prolifically creating, I’ve been itching to get back to work but have been experiencing a little bit of an artist’s block. So, I decided that I had to re-acquaint myself with my old friend mark-making. In college, I used it as a tool to clear my head and lean into new projects, typically with India ink. I must say that I’m really enjoying bringing it back into my practice and expanding upon it. It allows me to work through ideas, emotions, problems and moments, to clear my head and continue forward.

100 Days of Hands - Drawing & Making Challenge

Hands are some of the most elusive things to capture as an artist, yet I’m consistently drawn to them.

Needless to say, this challenge was calling my name.  I decided to add extra stipulations, to make it even more fun and hopefully lead to a new series of work to explore.

Each hand has a gestural meaning and is paired with a flower or plant with a related meaning.  I’ve started out this challenge by studying Roman orator gestures and Victorian era floral meanings.  Follow along and join in!
